Postgraduate education in the Thule Institute
Thule Institute offers high level multidisciplinary postgraduate education in the field of northern and environmental issues, not forgetting to prepare the student for the working life and to help in career planning. The education is integrated in the research programmes of the Thule Institute, and in the NorNet research institute cooperation.
The leader of the postgraduate education in the Thule Institute is Research Professor Arja Rautio.
Northern sensitive environment is in a key position in research of climate change. Undeniably, the very first signs of the effects of global change on the environment are already seen and the impacts detectable in the society. Research in the North covers a wide perspective, from climate and environmental change to the related societal and economic shifts, and from the use of natural resources to mitigation measures and resource efficiency.
ThuleEdu postgraduate platform offers the postgraduate students at the University of Oulu a multidisciplinary education program and grants. ThuleEdu organizes courses and seminars, which give the PhD students a better understanding of multidisciplinary issues in the focus area of Thule Institute: environment, natural resources and materials. The goal of the ThuleEdu is to educate international, scientifically competent researchers and experts for different sectors of society, familiarized with problem-solving in human-environment relationships, climate change adaptation, mitigation measures, and the forcing factors behind these issues.
